A dialogue entitled "Transnationalism and Development: Experiences of Permanent and Temporary Return" was organised by Refugee & Migratory Movements Research Unit (RMMRU), Dhaka University in collaboration with the British Council that is supported by the British High Commission at RMMRU, 3/3-E, Sattar Bhaban (4th Floor), Bijoynagar, Dhaka-1000 at 3:00 pm on Thursday, 23 February 2006. This was second proceeding dialogue under the project "Transnationalism and Development". This dialogue was an open table discussion.

The objective of the dialogue is to bridge the gap among the British Bangladeshis as well as Bangladesh counterparts. Speakers at a dialogue discussed that the second and third generations of the British Bangladeshis at UK as well as in Bangladesh are suffering for differentiating cultural, language, religious distress and varying norms and values.

At the inaugural session Dr. Tasneem Siddiqui, Chair, RMMRU, welcomed the participants of the meeting. Following her introductory statement the participants introduced themselves. Dr. Tasneem Siddiqui briefed the objective, activities and work plan of this project. She defined the difference of Transnationalism and Diaspora and briefed about transnationalisation situation whole over the world. She also marked the characteristics and contribution of the UK transnational people for the country.

The discussants of the programme were Mr. Nabil Ahmed, Mr. Delwar Hussain, Mr. Aiyaz Ahmed, Mr. Sabbir Ahmed and Mr. Mohammad Masud Chowdhury. This open session is mainly concentrated to experience sharing of the permanent and temporary return of the discussants. Several issues were discussed on the dialogue programme.
