Venice of Bengal, Barisal.

Though Barisal then was a small country district town and now a modest town with its surrounding natural beauty. Jibanananda Das, the famous Bengali poet, was the talent of this city. Archaeological heritage and relics are Rammohan Samadhi Mandir, Sujabad Kella, Sangram Kella, Sharkal Fort, Girja Mahalla, Bell's Park, Ebadullah Mosque, Kasai Mosque, Oxford Church etc. Barisal was lush green, and due to the absence of overpopulation, absolutely pristine. Nature was everywhere. At that time there were no clear-cut boundaries between town and village, and nature invaded every field, every open space, and every alley between the small houses.
